The Shape of Things to Come

Andrea Lord and Iori Espiritu make the act of mending a creative and healing practice. A global pandemic, a tropical typhoon, a maze, a puzzle, life’s confusions…all these have left fragments for them to pick up and piece together. It is in their choice of mending that reveals their particular and personal act of healing.

Iori’s glazed pieces of triangles can be tied together and unveil various configurations. Glazed in light pink, olive and off white colors, she can mix and match how they go together. The piece resists breaking because it is not one solid object, but a composition of many tiny pieces, held together by thick thread. It’s design gives it flexibility and the capacity to reshape and begin something new again.

Iori Espiritu is a ceramic artist and illustrator. As a ceramic artist, she has exhibited her colorful, vibrant, and whimsical works in galleries in the Philippines.Iori is also a member of Ilustrador ng Kabataan (Ang INK), an organization of illustrators for children’s books.
