Para Kay Gemma: Nilay at Pag-Asa (For Gemma: Meditation and Hope)
Lala de Leon, 2021
Video (Candle and soap)
Lala de Leon created a care package with the products: the Nilay (Meditation) candle and Pag-Asa (Hope) soap. Both objects are made from rich and gentle ingredients such as soy wax and extra virgin olive oil blended with essential oils that calm the mind and spirit: patchouli, frankincense and orange. An illustration of a woman in a quarter lotus pose on the amber-colored candle bottle highlights yoga as a personal self-care ritual. The stone-shaped soap is a nod to one of Gemma’s works, a glass blown pebble. The activated charcoal and gold mica are colors that are associated with 2021’s colors of the year. The video presents the process and act of preparing a package meant to bring comfort to the receiver, her collaborator Gemma Truman.
